A record dating 1558 states that Claus Kames (also spelled Kamitz) was a ship-owner (skibsreder).
He was also mayor (borgmester) of Rønne. He moved to Bornholm from Scotland, where Kames was a
fishing-village on the Clyde River in the Greenoch region. Probably owned Store Almegård, 26' Slg.
in Knudsker parish. He must have been a man of wealth and position in order for his daughter
Elsebeth to have married the nobleman Henning Gagge.
